The family who visited us in mid-July was from Nagano. They told me they met in a mountain hut, and both love hiking. Their two daughters were so full of smiles and clearly loved nature too – no surprise with parents like that!
Looking back on our busy season, it seems like I talked about mountains a lot. I mean, Goto is known for its ocean, but it seems like people who love the sea also tend to love mountains. It makes sense. People who don’t love nature probably wouldn’t choose a guesthouse in the middle of nowhere like this. It’s so cool that I have this connection with people who love mountains. There's a mountain called Nanatsu-dake here, one of the Kyushu 100 Famous Mountains, and I'd love to take guests hiking there someday. I'm actually studying up on it right now.
We had some rainy days when the rainy season just wouldn't end, but we were still able to enjoy the beach at Takahama or Tontomari, and we had some great bonfire BBQ. Those little girls were so cute in their matching yukatas after playing in the ocean and taking a bath. And on one of those days, a friend of mine who’s a fisherman gave us some swordfish and sea bream. I'm so grateful for his kindness and for the bounty of the sea.
Traveling always depends on the weather, but I hope everyone can have fun no matter where they go, rain or shine. I was so glad to see the kids having a blast on the second-floor rope net and hammock. And I bet my parents were thrilled that they enjoyed the stone art activity they suggested!
That parents planned a lovely little 6th birthday party for their sister. It's been four months already, but I hope she still remembers it. I'd love it if she thinks of Goto and GIVE ME FIVE from time to time. Let's create even more packed experiences for kids and adults alike, so they can take home even more special memories!
